Dear fellow Mac users,

Welcome back to the new semester. I’m sure you have gotten used to using a Mac and its many features available to you. In 2007, MacNUS will be organising many new activities that will help you realise the full potential of your Mac. The first of which will be our RAM mass order for MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

What is RAM? Well, the RAM is basically something placed in your Mac to allow it to perform operations. Essentially, more RAM means you get to run your applications faster. Mac OS X requires at least 700MB of RAM to function smoothly, and this is exactly the reason why you find that your brand new MacBooks are running sluggishly at times.

If your MacBook has been running sluggishly on the default 512MB of RAM, installing more RAM is the solution to your problems. Alright, now for the important point.

1GB RAM – $170 (non-members)
$165 (members)

(includes free installation)

Only limited stocks are available.

For more information and to order please email hansen@macnus.org

Yours Sincerely,

Hansen Teong

MacBooks, 512MB no enough

August 27th, 2006

Now that purchases of MacBooks are largely done, it’s time for upgrading of the default 512MB ram in your MacBook to at least 1GB of ram. “But hey, I don’t use the computer for any heavy stuff, I don’t need to upgrade right?”, you may ask. WRONG. The MacBook uses AT LEAST 80mb of system ram to power the integrated graphics, and at times this will go up to about 200over mb. Which means that you may be running on only about 200 over mb of ram! As this article suggests, the sweet spot for Mac OS X is around 768mb, with the MacBook it will have to be 1gb due to the integrated graphics card. OS X just runs too slowly with 512mb or below ram. To prevent disappointing performance from your MacBook, upgrade today. MacNUS will be organising a mass purchase of ram, sign up for the forums today to participate in the ram purchase by posting in the mass purchase thread.
